What a pleasant surprise to see that the Coco still lives. Back in the '80s we had a thriving Coco user's group or 2 in Pittsburgh. Truly good old days-- no viruses, simple fun, Rainbow and Hot Coco, and above all the thrill of learning with a great group of helpful, friendly and dedicated guys and gals on a Sunday afternoon each month.

In 1983 there was a business called Commodore, this company made a number of machines. One of which is the Commodore 64 and 128. The computers are 8 bit computers. They later mad the Amiga 500, then the 1000, Amiga 600, Amiga 1200, Amiga 2000, Amiga 3000, Amiga 4000. These computers are similar to Macintosh because of the processor. The Amiga 1200 and 4000 had VIDEO TOASTER. This allows Video Input Output and Editing with the OUTPUT of composite, RGB (Red)(Green)(Blue). The year was 1987-1992 this was made. Why Did they Close down Commodore Computers. The COCO computer may have been made similar as the Commodore 64.

Hello All,

I have been given 3 boxes of COCO2-COCO3 units complete software, tapes, etc (no monitor but small accessories).
I must admit that I am not well versed with this system. Are there anyone interested close to this area. I'll give it free.

Boy was I surprised to see this URL. Man, it has been many years since I used the old Coco and audio tapes to play or save programs. Enjoyed Ricks magazine and Jeff's rework of the coco to make it useful on PC's with DOS.

Originally purchased 3 Coco 2's for the family to show them the direction things were going. Later got a Coco 3 and 5 1/4 Disks. Boy, that was something. Gave them all away. Now I miss them.

Thanks for the memories..................

As a reader of CFDM way back from the first issue, I was astounded to see all the copies are still available, I gave all my originals away yonks ago. It will be a pleasure to re-read some of Ricks's copies.
I recently got my PCDRAGON emulator (from Paul Burgin) to run happily in Windows XP - Does anyone know how to do the same for Jeff's Coco3X version?
An email would be appreciated.

I just have to say that my years of dealing with The CoCo community were the most pleasureable of all my years dealing with computers. The Rainbow magazine made it a special experience for me. I'm still writing these days, but not for PC magazines. I write an online column at Cybermidi.com called "Practical MIDI" for budding MIDI sequencers. I've also written 9 books of fiction. I'd love to hear from any of you former CoCo enthusiasts.

Was a dedicated coco years way back. Cut my teeth on the machine. Spent thousand of hours typing in programs and writing basic software. I hated to switch to a IBM system. Stumbled on to yahoo and was suprised at number of coco users still around. Still have pile of coco hardware packed away in the garage. Think I will dig it out and see if I can still revive it. Like my first sweetheart my coco is still special to me. Thanks for all the support.

I was amused at the serial printing with the dmp-130 printer, as I had 2 of these I used with parallel interfaces. They were GREAT! The quietest printers of this type I've ever used. Can't find any these days, so I have to use my old Citizen 5200's instead. Bummer. Enjoyed the site's info.

Hi,
I'm glad to see people are still interested in the coco.
I owned a coco3 setup in the eighties and was a president of the Atlanta Computer Society, Inc.. When Tandy dropped the coco I (and other club members) moved on to other systems, pc, mac, amiga, etc. I always missed the coco and have just bought a coco3 (bad keyboard know where I could pick one up?) and I love it.
Let me know how I can help to keep the coco alive.

Hello All CoCo Friends,

This is my second entry in the guestbook. I believe I had the priviledge of being one of the first back when Jeff first placed CFDM at this site.

What prompted this entry was a call I made to one of my CFDM editors, Norm Barson, just this morning. I rarely hear from the 'Friends' anymore, but, as Norm and I agreed, 'It was a magical time when the Friends of CFDM were making the most of the last days of the CoCo3!'

My best regards go to all those who helped me do that years ago, and to all that visit this site ... and especially to Jeff Vavasour, creator of the CoCo 3 Emulator!

Amazing!! After all these years, to see people still having, and in some cases still using their old "friend" :)

I grew up with a Coco1, then switched for a Coco3. I learned to program on this computer. Today, I'm an analyst programer :)

I still remember the feeling I had when I saw my brother (older) coming back from Radio Shack, his arms full of boxes, landing them to me, saying "This is for you... have fun!" - The boxes contained a Coco 1, cassette deck and some books (Rainbow I think). Later, I got a DMP-105 printer, a disk drive, Coco Max, Scripsit & Assembler (from Tandy). Telewriter 64, and a bunch of other stuff, came later. That computer helped me graduate from College (doing my reports and analysis stuff on Telewriter).

Saddly, I never had that feeling again, with any other pieces of technology I bought or received. The Coco had this "magical touch" that nothing else never came close to catch.

Hi Jeff,
I was doing a search and came across this page.
I bought my first CoCo 1 (long back) back in 1982 it was a 16k ECB machine that was upgraded quickly to 64k , then came a 40 track DSDD floppy drive with ADOS, JDOS AND RSDOS switchable controller , I still have to this day the disk notcher that I used to make flippies.
I was a real CoCoNut and bought everything I could get my hands on, software, hardware and magazines.
In 1986 I started working for Tandy Australia in retail and moved shortly up to head office to work in Computer Support as their Coco expert.
The sad thing about all of this is that I sold off all my coco stuff in 1992 for $200.00 to make the move to PC's.

Now I am playing with Coco Emulators and having a ball all over again.

Cheers,
Barry.

What great memories: spending hours when I was a kid typing in games from Rainbow or Hot CoCo, learning multiplication thanks to the flash card programs my Dad wrote, writing reports with Telewriter 64 and getting into computer graphics thanks to CoCo Max 3.

At my dads place in a Cupboars is my One Meg Coco 3, a 512k Coco 3, my Dual 20 Meg Hdd kit with OS9 Support plus a 3.5 inh floppy Drive, years and years of Rainbow Magazine on Floppy, CFDM disks by the truck load, and miles and miles of books. Have not tunred them on for ages. I used to love paying around with "Studio Works" the sound digitiser and "Rascan" the video digitiser by Nick Marentes. I did a ton of reviews for a few mags and user groups. I had the best time learning about computers with my CoCo's. They were so much fun to play and learn on , pitty i cant say the same about todays consoles.

I dug my COCO out of the closet a few weeks ago. It hadn't seen the light of day for over 10 years! Just seeing my old friend again brought a grin from ear to ear. My son, who is now 13, stared at me strangely. I was on a mission; to hook my COCO up to the entertainment center and play a game of MegaBug ("We Gotchya!"). I disconnected the kids Gamecube (piece of crap 128bit processor) and proceeded to connect my superior 8bit machine in its place. I pushed in the power switch and there it was! MegaBug! Now wouldn't you know it. For the next few weeks the Gamecube has been sitting in the corner - hehe - I gave the kid the CoCo bug! But in the process, I got the bug back too! Man, those were the days. The early 80's, 16K of RAM, Extended Color Basic, program cassette tapes laying all over. Now I'm on another mission - I'm assembling a COCO3 with 512K RAM, a PRO-Tector board, SCSI interface, AT keyboard interface, any small SCSI hard drive I can scrounge up, a PAL upgrade chip for my multipak, a few disk drives and finally OS9. (I've got that wild look in my eyes again!) I wish I would have known about CFDM when it was still active.

I'm bummed that after giving away my Coco2 and 3 in the late 80's, and recently deciding to get back into it with a unit from ebay, that the community has really dwindled in the last couple of years. I kept meaning to do it for years, but have apparently been too late.

Anyway, I got a copy of OS-9 with my 128K Coco3, but can't get it to boot (using FD-501 with 2 drives in it). I can read these floppys through a Coco emulator on my PC, so I'm hoping that means they're not damaged.

My fondest memories are of puzzling out OS-9 and writing assembly language programs for it. I have no recollection of what I had to do to get it working. Any advice anyone could offer would be welcome.

I'm also looking to find a hard drive controller and drive.

It's great to see that the CoCo community is still alive and active. I attended the first Rick's CoCo Picnic in Liberty, KY in 1995, where I met several very important CoCo people. (Jeff V, Stuart WyG, Rick C) I'm the one that offered the embroidered CFDM cloth patches. Jeff nearly ran me over to buy one from me. It was great fun while it lasted. I still own 2 CoCo 3 w/512k, but I don't use them. :-(

Wow, it's great to see there are still CoCo enthusiasts out there. I led the Kansas City CoCo Users Group (KC CoCo) for several years in the 80's. I do still have a lot of my CoCo equipment, books, and magazines, although they see little use these days. But just wanted to say hi to all out there who still enjoy what always will be a very special computer.

Happy to see so many CoCoists still active. If anyone has copy-protected software that they are afraid to use because they can't make back-ups, I may can help. I have software called "The Defeater" that will back up just about anything. Glenside Color Computer Club has a copy (Hopefully available somewhere on the web). But without the documentation it may be a little difficult to use. But, I will answer any questions that you may have.

Hi, I'm glad to see people still using and supporting the CoCo community! I grew up playing around and inputing programs from Rainbow magazine and other sources for the CoCo. I have a CoCo 2 64k and CoCo 3 w/512k and used OS/9 with a small 20MB harddrive. Recently I've been trying to get a controller for the HD as the Burke & Burke controller I had is no more. Hopefully I will find one. Keep up the good work.

I was looking for "Lyra" a program I used in my Coco I a long time ago, and I found this site. I still have all my Coco's I, II, III and some diferent programs I used. Maybe I open a museum some time. I was a suscriber to Rainbow Magazine until the end. Much of what I do today I learned using the Coco. So is still a good memory and a good machine it was. Thanks for the memory.

THANKS FOR KEEPING COCO ALIVE:
Over the years I've kept checking to see if any of us where
still out here. Getting a few less each year, but as with me
some of us are quiet, but still here. Thanks for keeping up
your website. I for one enjoy it.
I still have a complete set of Rainbows and bought out the Coco's we had at our hospital in our dept. a number of years back. I often wonder where Coco would be at if RS wouldn't have given up so soon. Some of the stuff I am force to do on
Microsoft crap in 2002 was done better and more open in the 80's. Where would we be......Yes I miss it, even miss the OS9. I am close to retirement age and plan on digging out my Coco's after retirement and
using modern tect. to advance with my Coco's. Resist change?
Hell no, just look at this as a way of advancing into the future.
THANKS FOR not giving up on our past and future.

Good to see the many excellent CoCo sites currently being run in the US/Canada. As I'm a Dragon User,(CoCo twin),I'm having a great time tracking down some of the CoCo software that is compatible that we never saw in England!

Cool archive. I shudder to think where I would be today if not for my CoCo. I probably would never have got into computers.

Hi there!

Great disk-magazine you had running! I recently rediscovered my CoCo and now intend to get the most out of this little critter. Wish I had done so ten years earlier.

I am probably one of the very few CoCo-nuts left in Europe...

Could you guess your knowledge of computers, without the CoCo?
What other computer made you want to program so much?
That is only the CoCo. Maybe the C-64 had better games, and graphics (from the original CoCo), but how could you compare the power of the CoCo to the others, having the best 8 bit CPU, and a very good basic interpreter !!!

I'm proud to say that I owe my carrer to the CoCo.

Hi All! I'm so happy to see that my childhood years can be re-lived again. Yes, I too own a COCO.
Does Snoopy still exist? Anyone?
Started a Coco Club back mid 80's in Blaine, Minnesota.
I'm ready to play a few games!

Great site. Even though I use ultra fast PC's with 100's of megabytes of memory in my daily job, I've recently spent all too much time (at work that is) browsing the net for COCO3 emulators, and COCo oriented web pages. I was glad to see such a nicely put together site , and surprized to see so many coco unthusiasts after all these years. Occasionally I still brag about the things my COCO3 with OS9 LII could do in the 1980's to people who own C64's and ZX81's. They will never undertsand how powerfull (and cool) the COCO was .

Well, found another way to burn time at work! Good job! I was just beginning to generate some interest for my old Coco hardware again. It's a shame this publication had to stop, but certainly understandable. I for one would appreciate the disk contents being available online, but understand that something like that would be quite an undertaking.
